On our yacht you will visit the historic island of Spinalonga, located close to the picturesque village of Plaka, Elounda. In this village you will also find lots of fish taverns. Spinalonga was built by the Venetians in 1579 and served as a quarantine place for people suffering with the Hansen's disease until 1957.
Kolokytha is a small seagull island with crystal clear waters. Across the island there is the small beach of Agios Loukas and a small church of Agios Fokas built on the ruins of the Byzantine church.
We will cross the canal in Alykes, which is the Greek word for salt pans, and we will see the ancient city of Olous, which is a monument of local history and culture. The salt pans were important for the survival of the local population for seven consecutive centuries. The high salt content of the gulf’s waters gave the Venetians a big advantage and in 1960 they produced tons of salt. It was also an important place for the residents of Elounda due to the abundance of fishes in the gulf. Today it serves as a place for fish hatching and shelter for migratory birds. We will also see the mills that were used to produce flour.
We will see the ruins of the temple located in the area between Elounda and Agios Nikolaos.
It is a small island located across the port of Agios Nikolaos. On the island there are two small churches. The island belongs to the Greek State and since the 20th century they have collected on the island the famous Cretan wild goats known as Kri Kri. There are two more islands used for the same purpose, Dia and Agioi Theodoroi.
It is a beach in the area of Makry Gyalos, northeast of Crete, with a small fish tavern and an amazing view of the Libyan Sea.
Agriomantra is a skerry close to Kavousi, in Mirabello Bay. An ideal place for a fresh seafood barbecue.
